It was my first year,, and hopefully many more to follow! I came in as a member of the 40s and over crowd musician - non dancer. I had heard that previous years had been at a place more open and therefore potentially much hotter. Not having that history for comparison all I would say is that I was very impressed by the redwoods!! Wow! It was truly an honor to meet you people and do my work with music while meeting so many beautiful people, in such a beautiful setting!
Really, it was a special time!
I'll post some pics as soon as I get back home.
I love you guys!

I just wanted to say thank you to all who came out and tried the class and shared the bhangra energy with us. you were such a fabulous audience to dance with. We met so many great folks from all over and loved every minute of Kosmos especially teaching under the redwoods. There is no better way to dance. :>)

Many of you exchanged info and were interested in finding out more. If you have any questions or need any additional info about classes and or bhangra in general, i hope you will contact us. You can always reach me here or through our websites and blogs.

We have regular classes in SF and berkeley every week. We also do a monthly event in SF dedicated to sharing Bhangra with everyone and it happens on the 3rd saturday every month. i hope you will be able to come check it out sometime.

In the meantime, thank you again for sharing your wonderful energy and spirit and giving us a chance to share ours with you. if you have any suggestions, feedback, thoughts, comments, we would LOVE to hear them so that we can make it even better next time. :>)

From the informative, fun and gracious instructors, at many camps I have attended the instructors teach their class and then retreat, but here almost everyone was available for questions and just hanging out discussing things , wonderful! To the wonderful meals, kitchen crew I can't thank you enough, I was consistently impressed with the quality and varity of food, not to mention the fun helpful folks serving up! And of course the excellent support staff, I watched you handle everything from small details to what could have been large problems with a great solution minded attitude. The music and performances were unbelievable, and I am now counting the days until next year. Thank you to everyone who made this such a wonderful experience, I look forward to seeing you all again!

This message just went out to this year's list of registered Kosmo-politans... If you haven't done it yet, do it now! We want to see you at camp in less than 10 days.

===============================================================

Hey Kosmos Folks,

We're now less than 10 days from this year’s Kosmos Camp and we've got some important information to share…

First off, as many of you know and everyone else should take a minute to check out, the TENTATIVE class schedule is currently posted on the website at: http://www.kosmoscamp.com/Schedule08.htm We hope to stay pretty true to this plan but are willing to update as we adapt to the new campsite.

ARRIVAL TIME IS ANYTIME AFTER 4PM on Thursday, June 5th.
You'll register, settle in, do yoga (if you wish) at 6PM, relax, and have dinner at 7:30pm-8:30pm. Then we'll introduce staff and have some outstanding opening night performances to kick the party off right. Here's a key "To-Bring" list to keep in mind:

- Cozy blanket (for snuggling during the evening shows at the outdoor theatre or on your deck)
- Warm pants and jacket (evening lows have been in the high 40s)
- Twin bed sheets, covers, and pillows (for
tent/cabins) Also, consider bringing a sleeping bag for any chilly nights.
- Camping gear and bedding/sleeping bag (for campsites/canopies)
- Lawn/Camp chairs and/or tables (for relaxing on the private decks)
- Earplugs, for any light sleepers (It may be louder than you like at night)
- Flashlight (It also gets dark at night)
- Toiletries (bug repellant & sun block are strongly advised)
- Bathing suit & towel (Daytime highs have been in the low 80s and the new site features a great big pool!)
- Comfortable shoes (as well as any dance shoes)
- Musical instruments (If you got ‘em, bring ‘em!)
- Toys (for spinning, hooping, balancing, etc) or crafts (if you’re the crafty sort) or a book (if you just want to unwind with a trashy novel)
- Snacks/Beverages (We provide yummy food and drink, but if you have anything special you want/need, bring it along)
- Perscriptions/Aspirin/Allergy Meds etc (Better safe than sorry)
- Money (for the evening bar, the bakery across the street, and/or crafts/CDs by your fellow campers)
- Lamps or other electrical appliance for tent cabin use; there’s one outlet per tent cabin (Sorry no heaters, they can be a fire hazard)

PHONES:

Cell Phones don't get reception at the resort, though they do work 15 minutes down the road. There is a phone at the camp but it's not a pay phone so you’ll need a calling card. There is no Internet access at the camp (sorry nerds, workaholics, and ebay junkies).

RIDES:

With gas prices rising and global warming in full swing, we encourage all to ride up together. To coordinate rides, just go to:
http://kosmoscamp.tribe.net/

Post using the title "I Need a Ride from…" or "Who Wants a Ride from…?" and it’s great if you can indicate where you’re coming from.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS:

Our webmaster has updated the driving directions, replacing it with a better and faster route. Check this link for the new and improved directions:
http://www.kosmoscamp.com/Where.htm

Can’t wait to see you all soon… we're excited and looking forward to seeing you all. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me at:

matthew@kosmoscamp.com

Sincerely,

If we do that can we reserve one whole bedouin tent or dorm room for ourselves or would it be better to just each pay the camping fee and set up our own little camp area?

Hey all,

After much digging, the official 2005 Kosmos Camp photo gallery has been posted. Check it out at:

http://taboomedia.smugmug.com/gallery/593531

As always, my policy on image usage is simple: You're free to use the online version (be sure to grab the "original" size for best image quality) for your site or Tribe gallery (or other online use) so long as you leave the copyright notice in place. I'm also happy to create a custom-sized and optimized web-version of any image without the copyright notice, if you agree to include a small HTML copyright and link back to http://www.taboomedia.com next to the image.

The annoying copyright notice is to allow me to protect the subjects of the photos.

Please don't use the images for advertising without contacting me first ( email me at brad@taboomedia.com ), thanks!

Also, I'm happy to send registered Kosmos Camp attendees a link to a special site where they can purchase affordable custom prints of the images in the gallery. Just drop me an e-mail at webmaster@kosmoscamp.com with the name you registered for camp under.

Just wanted to say that I personally had a blast this year at Kosmos and I hope all of you did as well. By looking over the comments on evaluation sheets and having a strong showing with the special on-site registration deal for Kosmos 2006, it seems that, by and large, attendees were very happy with the Kosmos experience. The food seemed to be an issue for some, with varying degrees of discontent. There were some who felt that not enough was offered. I felt well fed personally as a big eating man but then again, I wasn't dancing all day as many of you were. At any rate, the point is well taken that we must adjust to the necessary Kosmos diet that suits participants' appetites. Understand that our intent was to go lighter on the carbs, with complaints from the previous year that there were too many and it was heavy on the dancer's stomach. Please let me know how you feel about the experience and what can be changed. Realize that this is only the third year and as we expand there are always new challenges that arise in making Kosmos happen. I feel very confident that we are offering a high quality experience that is aimed at taking care of our participants to the best of our abilities. Take care and I wish you all the best in the coming days of your lives. Let us know how you feel...

Yoga will start at 5:00pm in the Heart Lodge. Dinner will be served at 7:00-9:00pm. A warm welcome and evening performances will begin promptly at 9:00pm.

On Sunday, everyone must depart by 7pm, to allow us time to break down the event and clean up.

THINGS TO BRING- - Toiletries (bug repellant & sunblock are advised)
- Bathing suit & towel
- Comfortable shoes
- Light jacket for the evenings
- Bedding (for dorms)
- Camping gear (for campsite)
- Flashlight
- Dance shoes
- Musical instruments
- Money (for the bar and/or people selling their crafts/CDs)
- Ear plugs/sleeping mask (for light sleepers)
- Tape or DV recorder for recording music classes

CAMPING- If you're slotted for camping you must bring your own tent and sleeping bag. There are ample grounds so everyone will have a nice campsite.

INDOOR ACCOMODATIONS- You must bring your own bedding and pillow, if you're staying indoors. You'll be assigned a sleeping location at the registration table when you arrive. We're doing our best to ensure that all roommate requests are filled.

FOOD- The menu will accomodate both meat eaters and vegetarians, but we can not guarantee strict vegans that every meal will always have food that fits their diet.

VENDING- There will be places to set up small vending tables. Please check with myself or Rika Welsh before setting up your vending site.

TELEPHONES- Cell Phone service is spotty at Saratoga Springs Resort but a telephone will be available for important and emergency calls. Just ask Rika or myself.

SMOKERS- There are two designated places to smoke, in a gazebo next to the Heart Lodge and by the pool. There is a serious fire hazard at Saratoga Springs so please pay close attention to this rule. ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING AT CAMPSITES OR OUTSIDE THESE TWO DESIGNATED PLACES.

DIRECTIONS- find at:
www.saratogasprings.com
or www.kosmoscamp.com

I'm looking forward to meeting you all at camp. There is still space available for the event so if you have any friends that may be interested, tell them it's not too late to sign up. Take care and e-mail me if you have any questions at:

matthew@kosmoscamp.com.

Sincerely,
Matthew Furey
